Traditional Art / Scratchboard

Title pretty much says it all, doesn't it ?

This was a kind of old piece I did 4 years ago using scratchboard. You know, those black cardboard plates which become white when you scratch their surface with a sharp tool. Working with scratchboard is pretty much like engraving: you draw by gently carving one thin line after the other, until light literally comes out of the black.
I LOVE this medium, but it is not meant for people with a real life: it takes AGES. Ages of real pleasure and concentration, but ages I haven't had since then ...
Hope you like it. The background is genuine, in the sense that it is a composite of various traditional Romanian architecture.

It is an old-ish one, but ... I still like it. I wish I had the time again to work on a scratchboard piece. But I miss the 50+ hours necessary for that, this medium is madness.

Nice of yours to qualify it as "fantastic". It is particularly meaningful coming from you.
Yet I am sure that you put as much time and effort in your portraits too. The WIP you sometimes share with us certainly show that they are really involved works, no doubt.

Thanks. I really wish I had the time to work with this medium on a regular basis. But it is kind if incompatible with my life-style alas (two children, two jobs, and just half-a-brain !
