Artist's Comments

Even the most twisted tree in the depth of an enchanted forest deserves it's own Christmas decoration, doesn't it ?

This was a Christmas card I did for DA member Quilde ([link]).

This just made my night. It's such a foreboding tree, yet it has such a quaint little ornament. It put a smile on my face.

At my lemonade stand, I used to give the first glass away free, but charge $5 for the second glass. The refill contained the antidote.

Thanks a lot. A smile on a viewer's face is the best reward one can dream of when posting an art piece. Now you put a smile on mine in return ! :)
Be well,

Thanks a lot, Meredith, I really appreciate that. :)
It makes me realize that I should use those golden pigments more often. But it takes a lot of work to "re-create" that shiny effect through a scan.
My best wishes to you for the holiday season. :snowing:

Actually, with this new piece, I experimented with a new technique which gave rather good results I feel (to my own appreciation, of course). I did the scan in two steps: First, a "classical" scan with a frontal lighting, to get the best contrast out of the ink work (but which, obviously, transformed the golden hues into ... mud). And then, a digital photography with a strong side-lighting, which produced nice golden reflexions (but which resulted in an uneven lighting on the whole piece, making it useless as a global image). And the trick is then to merge the two digital pictures into one, extracting only the golden parts from the second image and pasting them into the first.
It takes some time to do the merging with precision, but it seems to work well.
